John Michael Hoke

Hi Friends, John Michael here to provide a quick glimpse into who I am and what I do.

 

I'm an Actor, singer, and fight choreographer (among other things) currently living in Austin, Texas, and am thoroughly immersed in the theatrical world. I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor's degree in Performance and Production, which prepared me to constantly expand my knowledge and skill base for almost any job presented to me. 

 

In my career so far, I've taken on positions as an Actor, Director, Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Fight Choreographer, Running Crew, Carpentry Crew, and Dramaturg - though there is no denying my preference to being on the stage as opposed to behind the scenes.

I've lived in Texas my entire life: born and raised in Houston, then moved to San Marcos for College. I've found Austin to be an incredibly welcoming theatre community despite its small size, and look forward to seeing what it will blossom into.

Fight Choreography remains a distinct passion of mine, ever since my youngest days swinging play swords in my backyard. I actively pursue training at every accessible opportunity, and plan on certifying with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) as soon as possible. Currently, I have trained in unarmed, single sword rapier, quarterstaff, and Irish Shillelagh, and have a basic understanding of broadsword and knife techniques.
